2017 has some great gaming related releases already in the pipeline. From new games to new hardware to entirely new consoles, 2017 is set to be a really interesting year. Here are some of the biggest trends to keep an eye out for.

Nintendo Switch

Nintendo are getting back in the console game with the Switch. When it was announced last year it set the internet on fire with its innovative hybrid design that allows for gaming on the go and from your own home. With a slough of Nintendo only games being released at launch this console is prepped and ready to be a smash hit. The Nintendo Switch is due for release on the 3rd March, so not long to go.

Mobile Gaming

Last year Pokemon Go set the world on fire. It was a smash hit phenomenon that took over everybody’s lives. It didn’t last for long, but plenty of people still play and enjoy it. What Pokemon Go showed us though was the power of having so many people with a smartphone. Smartphone games have the largest number of potential players for any console, so this year it wouldn’t be a stretch to assume we are going to see another Pokemon Go level event. What that game will be is yet to be seen, but developers are always finding new and interesting ways to design games. The rest of the mobile gaming market will continue to develop while we wait for the one game to rule them all. Themed games and those based on current franchises will continue to be popular. Such on the Lucky Nugget Casino, which offers a wide range of themed-games from plenty of different films, TV shows and established video games. They are different games in their own right, but they use an existing license to get people interested in the game.

VR

VR didn’t quite take off the way many people had envisioned last year. This was partly due to a lack of decent VR exclusive games. Without this hook it made it difficult for people to consider spending so much money on a headset. However, the PlayStation VR headset launched in late 2016 with plenty of interesting games. It comes in a lot cheaper than the PC VR headsets, too. There are also lots of cool looking VR exclusive and VR compatible games coming out this year. The price for the hardware will likely steadily decrease throughout the year as well. All of these factors mean that VR is sure to take off in 2017.
