Air Mauritius Enters Administration

Air Mauritius, the flag carrier of the island nation, has today entered voluntary administration due to unable to meet its financial obligations. The airline has grounded all its flights through May 15 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The airline is essential for the island burgeoning tourism sector as it carriers roughly half of the passengers to the country and is the only carrier serving several direct routes such as Perth, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

It is extremely challenging times for an airline such as Air Mauritius that mainly transports tourists on their holidays to/from Mauritius.

Not only are there entry restrictions and bans in place for likely considerable length of time, many will likely choose closer and cheaper vacation destination once travel is again allowed.

I flew on Air Mauritius from Johannesburg to the country in May last year. It was a comfortable ride on an A350.
