It was announced during a video press conference earlier today that Orange County, FL, which includes the City of Orlando and most of the Central Florida theme park areas, including Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, will be under a "stay at home" mandate, starting Thursday, March 26th.

Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, Sheriff John Mina and Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer had an Orange County Government Update on coronavirus, where they jointly announced the mandate will go into effect this Thursday, March 26th, at 11pm.

"Orange County now has at least 50 cases within our county," said Mayor Demings. "On March 15, just one week ago, we had just one case. It is an understatement that it is spreading throughout our community."

Everyone in the county will be asked to stay at home, and only venture out for "essential business." That includes trips to work, the supermarket and the pharmacy. Outside exercise will be allowed, but people would be discouraged from doing so in groups. Residents will also be able to order takeout, visit the doctor or get supplies for work.

This announcement comes on the heels of Governor Ron DeSantis refusing to do a statewide order to stay in place, despite the state of Florida already having nearly 1,500 total cases of COVID-19.

Further details of the order are forthcoming.
