UEFA is reportedly considering moving the summer's European Championship to December.

According to the Daily Telegraph, European football's governing body is said to be pondering pushing back the competition in an attempt to allow domestic leagues to come to their conclusions.

The major leagues across the continent have all announced suspensions to their fixtures because of the coronavirus pandemic.

As noted in the report, UEFA are set to hold a meeting on Tuesday regarding the rescheduling of matches. They have already confirmed that the fixtures scheduled for the Champions League and Europa League this week have been postponed.

Further information was provided in the report:

"With the whole of Europe now in sporting lockdown, sources say the Uefa emergency meeting will discuss moving the international tournament as well as potentially the Champions League and Europa League.

"While the summer of 2021 is free of major men's tournaments, the possibility of playing the international tournament later this year will also be raised for discussion amongst UEFA's 55 member associations."

Later in the piece, it's said that it's "all but inevitable" that the major tournament will be moved in the summer.

The European Championship isn't the only major football competition that was scheduled for the summer, with the Copa America also on the calendar. In addition, men's and women's football will be played at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, should that go ahead.

Major sporting events across the world have been postponed or cancelled with a view to containing the spread of COVID-19.

Per, the World Health Organisation has confirmed the global total of coronavirus cases has passed 152,000, with more than 5,000 deaths.
