Following the cancellation of the 2019-2020 NBA season due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, NBA players have stepped up to aid arena workers that face the loss of wages as games for the year have been canceled.
Most recently rising New Orleans Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson took to Instagram to announce he will be covering the salaries of the Smoothie King Center employees for 30 days. Williamson is just the latest in a lineup of players looking to help the league and its supporting crew get through the pandemic.
Earlier this week Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo stated that he will be donating $100,000 to those who work at Fiserv Forum and Kevin Love said that he will be doing the same for workers at the Cleveland Cavaliers' Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. Detroit Pistons' Blake Griffin will also be donating $100,000 USD to employees at the Little Caesars Arena and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban will be paying hourly workers at the American Airlines Center during the canceled season.
