According to Jake Trotter, Joe Woods was fired by the ClevelandBrowns on Monday morning after three seasons on the job.

The San Francisco 49ers' defensive backs coach and passing game coordinators, Woods, was hired as the DC by Kevin Stefanski after he was hired as the head coach of the Cleveland Indians.

It was reported on Sunday that Woods had been fired after the loss to Pittsburgh. Cleveland finished the year with a 7th place finish.

Cleveland reached the playoffs for the first time since 2002 despite ranking 17th in total defense and 21st in scoring defense in Woods' first season.

The unit improved to fifth in total defense and 13th in scoring defense.

There were question marks surrounding the offense entering the campaign, but there were high expectations for the defense.

The Woods' side of the ball was ranked 14th in total yards allowed and 20th in points allowed.

Cleveland's porous run defense was an issue throughout the year, as the team ranked 25th in the league against the run, giving up 135.2 yards per game.

Cleveland finished 31st in the NFL with a -23.11 defensive total rush EPA.

Jadeveon Clowney, the former No. 1 pick in the draft, was sent home from the team before the season finale because he didn't play well.

Clowney said in an interview with Cleveland.com that he was "95 percent sure" he wouldn't re-sign with the team.

Clowney said that he believed the Browns were too focused on defense and not enough on winning.

You're trying to getGarrett into the Hall of Fame rather than winning games. I don't believe thatGarrett notices. I'm not saying it's him. I play with a lot of people. We don't have any problems. It's B.S. and I don't have time for it.

Cleveland's defense was poor this season, but that didn't deter the Pro Bowler from matching his career high with 16 sacks, as he was named to the team for the third year in a row.

There isn't much certainty on the unit in terms of personnel beyond that of the DC who replaces Woods.
