  • NASA says a comet is approaching Earth.

  • The comet was last seen in our solar system 50,000 years ago.

  • On February 2, the comet will be close to Earth.

NASA says that a comet will pass by Earth in February and won't come back for another 50,000 years.

The comet will be close to Earth on February 2. February 2 will be the closest comet to the Earth since the Upper Paleolithic era when humans left Africa and settled in Asia and Europe.

The comet was first seen in March.

NASA said in a news release that the comet has brightened and is now sweeping across the northern constellation. Without a telescope, it's too dim to see.

The comet C/2022 E3 could only be seen to the eye in dark night skies by February 2nd. According to NASA, the comet has a coma, dust tail, and ion tail.

The comet can be seen to people in the Northern Hemisphere in the pre-dawn hours with a telescope or binoculars.

The comet is thought to have come from the Oort Cloud, the farthest region of the solar system that has a big, thick-walled bubble made of icy pieces of space debris.
