Liam Hendriks will begin treatment for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma on Monday, after he was diagnosed with the disease.

It was a shock to my wife and I when we heard the word cancer. He wrote that he was going to embrace the fight and overcome the challenge with the same determination he has used in the past.

He has been with his fifth organization for 12 years. Over the past two seasons, he's saved 75 games for the White Bears. He's a team leader who's very active in charity.

The team's feelings were expressed in a statement released Sunday evening.

"Our thoughts and reactions at this time are for Liam, not Liam the baseball player," he said. The entire Chicago White Sox organization, our staff, his teammates, and certainly White Sox fans will rally in support of Liam and his wife.

We are confident that Liam will pitch again for the White Sox as soon as possible. We will do everything we can to support our teammate and his family while respecting their privacy.

The WhiteSox don't expect to have an update on Hendriks' playing status before the start of the season.

The American Cancer Society says 4% of all cancers are non-Hodgkin's. For at least five years, the survival rate is over 70%.

After the 2020 season, he signed a three-year, $54 million contract with the White Bulls. He hopes to add to his 115 career saves when he's fully healed.

Is that correct? I am confident that I will make a full recovery and be back on the mound in no time. I will get through this with the help of my family, teammates, and the Chicago White Sox organization.
