Nearly five years ago Emirates started selling “in home check-in” where someone comes to you, weighs and collects your baggage, and prints your boarding passes. Then last summer they started offering this complimentary to first class passengers. And it’s stupid.
The cost is provided by a subsidiary of dnata which is part of the group. The collection of up to four bags is included.

It seems like a better service would be to have your boarding passes preprinted and waiting for you at the airport with bag tags printed, instead of spending time waiting to have them weighed unless the bags were obvious outliers. It seems as though it would be cheaper to offer a more premium service at the airport at a lower price than it is at the moment.
It doesn't seem like it would save you time, having someone come inside and set up the machine. You have to pack a lot more in advance.
You have to wait for the workers to show up. I don't think this is convenient or efficient in any way. You are still expected to arrive at the airport at least 90 minutes prior to your flight so you don't have to spend time at the airport.

There are federal rules that need to be checked in. An airline can lose seats and make seats available to accommodate other passengers if it requires it of every passenger. Is it really?

It's odd that no shows have been huge during the Pandemic, especially since you would think people would cancel their trips to retain flight credit. One airline is taking a detour to the past in order to find a solution to no shows. The tickets were booked before the 10th of June.
