According to a report from Mark Gurman, Apple is about to release a mixed reality headset. The device will be revealed at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June and will be available this fall, according to reports.

It is expected that the headset will provide both virtual reality and augmented reality experiences using the new xrOS operating system. Gurman says Apple showed off the Reality Pro- branded device to a few high-profile developers so they could create third-party apps for it.

Rumors that the development of the headset is delayed due to issues with mechanical component drop testing and the availability of software development tools were confirmed by Gurman. It seems more likely that Apple will announce the headset at a media event in the spring, according to him.

There have been many reports about the headset's potential capabilities, including iris scanning for logins and payments, and a physical dial that will let you switch out of virtual reality. An ultra-low-latency mode can be enabled when wearing the earbuds with the headset, according to a report. It might not come with a gaming controller, but it might focus more on work than gaming.

There are still many bugs to be worked out with the device and this is slowing down Apple's other projects. It's possible that Apple missed its goal of transitioning away from Intel-powered chips within two years because of this.

Apple is expected to release a new lineup of MacBook Pros with marginal improvements this year, along with a 15-inch MacBook Air, and a new Mac Pro with no option for an M2 Extreme chip. Gurman notes that Apple plans to release a Mac Pro variation with the M2 Ultra chip that eliminates user upgradeable RAM. It could ship with a design similar to the $5,999 model, which doesn't make it much more attractive than the $1,999 Mac studio.

Gurman said not to expect anything revolutionary about the new HomePod. An S8 chip, an updated touch control panel, and a lower price are possibilities. Some devices, like an updated iMac and a new round of iPad Pros, aren't expected to arrive until next year.
