A startup in Italy called Robotor has created a machine that is nearly as good at carving marble masterpieces as its predecessors.

The founder of Robotor thinks his marble statues are almost as good as those made by humans.

He told CBS that he thought we were in 99 percent. The human touch makes the difference. It's important that the one percent is small.

Massari argued that "robot technology doesn't steal the job of the humans, but just improves it", considering the mastership that went into a form of art that has been around for thousands of years.

Art vs. Robartist

The latest robot sculptor from Robotor is 13 feet tall and is capable of chipping away at a slab of marble.

The technology is revolutionary, according to the company.

The company claims that the quarried material can be turned into complex works in a way that was once considered unimaginable. The era of sculpture no longer consists of broken stones, chisels and dust, but of scanning, point clouds and design.

Some people argue that something important could be lost in the process of modernizing processes with new technologies.

Lorenzo Calcinai told CBS that they risk forgetting how to work with their hands. The more we go forward, the harder it will be to preserve it.

The work of marble sculptors could be done by robot. The creator says that this one is 99%. CBS news
