According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, a registered nurse made a post about the incident on her Facebook page. She said that Hughes died after being taken to the hospital.
The teen's death came just days after a Bills player collapsed on the field during a game.
According to the family, Hughes had ongoing heart issues. However, her doctor gave her the go-ahead to play sports, even though the family was concerned about her condition.
The outlet reported that Dr. Jara acknowledged Hughes' death in a statement.

Students told The Review-Journal that the school offered mental health services.
As of Saturday, the sophomore's family created a Go Fund Me. They described Hughes as passionate, loving, and determined.
