According to Albert Breer of SportsIllustrated.com, the lead candidate to replace Kliff Kingsbury if he were to be fired by the Arizona Cards would be defensive coach VanceJoseph.

Breer noted that everything appears to be on the table, including a firing, a negotiated exit or a fifth season in the desert.

The team's performance since he took over as head coach in the middle of the season has put him in a tough spot.

The only winning season that the Cards have had in the last four years was in the 2021 season. Under the 43-year-old, Arizona has only made the playoffs once.

The Cards will play the 49ers in Week 18 with a 4-12 record. They're dealing with a lot of injuries and have been one of the worst teams in the league.

Kyler Murray tore his knee in a Week 14 loss to the New England Pats. He could miss the start of the season.

The tight end was hurt in a Week 10 win over the Los Angeles Rams.

A number of players have missed time because of injuries.

The four seasons of little success might be enough for the Cards to move on. He hasn't considered his future with the team beyond Week 18.

When asked if he expected to be the team's head coach in 2023, he said they would focus on that after Sunday. All our talk has been about how we win.

Arizona's defense has been led by Joseph. He was the head coach of the Denver Broncos and interviewed for the Miami Dolphins' head coaching job.

We don't know who the other candidates will be.
