Wout Weghorst could be going to Manchester United.

It's understood that United have been in the market for a forward to provide cover for Marcus Rashford, and have made initial contact with Clarets to see if a deal can be done.

Weghorst left to join Besiktas on a season-long loan last summer after finding the back of the net just twice for the Clarets, who he joined on a three-and-a-half year deal from Wolfsburg.

It would require both clubs to agree to cut short Weghorst's loan in order to make a deal happen.

One of the most dramatic goals of the World Cup was scored by the towering 6ft 6in forward, who netted an equalising goal in the dying moments of the Netherlands' quarter-final against Argentina.

A loan move is believed to be United's focus in the current window, with the intention of re-visiting the position in the summer when more options are available.

They were looking for a player of Weghorst's profile last summer, and they were interested in Benjamin Sesko.
