Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 Newcastle United: Josh Windass double gives League One side win

It was a memorable FA Cup win for Wednesday, as they knocked out the third-ranked side in the English top flight.

Josh Windass scored two goals in the second half as the Owls came out on top.

Bruno Guimaraes gave the visitors hope with a close-range finish in the second half but they were not able to get an equalising goal.

It was the first defeat for Eddie Howe's team in over two months.

Windass opened the scoring seven minutes into the second period when he finished off a flowing move after both sides had missed good opportunities.

George Byers drove towards the penalty area after taking a clever turn inside theNewcastle half.

Liam Palmer's cross-shot was turned in by Windass after he slipped in Dennis.

The goal stood despite the fact that the forward looked like he was in an area that wasn't real.

There wasn't much controversy about the second. Windass opened up his body and curled the ball past Dubravka into the corner of the net after Michael Smith sent him clear.

Guimaraes stabbed in from a yard out after the Owls failed to deal with a corner to cancel out the home side's lead.

Windass almost completed his hat-trick with a ferocious long-range free-kick that came back off the bar and although home goalkeeper Green made a number of vital saves, he could only watch as Chris Wood missed the target.
