Doctors at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center say that Hamlin is breathing on his own and has good neurological function.

Hamlin is progressing after his breathing tube was removed, but he is still in critical condition.

The doctors at the UC Medical Center said Thursday that Hamlin had accomplished the first step in his recovery by having his breathing tube removed.

Dr. Timothy Pritts said they would like to see him breathing on his own. To be prepared to leave the hospital. As we go for his care, those are the first things we do. His family has been with him at his bedside, as have members of Buffalo Bills organization, so those will be the immediate next steps and then we will talk about potential plans for the future.

Hamlin was able to talk to his teammates on the phone. He told his teammates, "Love ya boys," made a heart with his hands, and gave them a thumbs up. The Bills players stood up, clapped and yelled in joy.

Dion Dawkins said, "We got our boy, man, you know what I'm talking about." All that matters. Our boy is with us. The excitement was wonderful. The thing was amazing. Whatever you call it, it has given us a lot of energy. It is going to us. It was everything to see that boy's face, smile, and flex his muscles. To hear him say something to us. It was the entire thing. That's what we need. That's all we need.

Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed on the field at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati on Monday night after he tackled a Bengal player.

The quick medical response saved Hamlin's life according to Dr. William Knight IV. He said a doctor was on Hamlin's side within a minute of him collapsing, and that Hamlin did not have a pulse.

There is no conclusive answer to what happened to Hamlin.

The Bills and the NFL will honor Hamlin in a variety of ways this weekend, with every team able to outline the "3" in each 30-yard line number on the field in a Bills color The Bills will have a "3" patch on their jerseys when they play the New England Pats. The program is hosted by CBS.

Brandon Beane, the general manager of the Bills, said Friday that it would be a celebration of life. "Just a celebration that this is not only going to be a celebration in Buffalo but the entire country and I'm sure people internationally that have watched this situation will be happy." If you have a ticket to come here and be a part of this atmosphere, it will be a great seat. I am thinking about the hair on my neck.

A source told Russini that the commissioner is going to the game.
