Boebert said on the House floor that it was time for Trump to tell McCarthy he did not have the votes. Boebert changed her vote to present in the 14th round, after voting for Jordan, Hern and Donalds previously. Gaetz and Good both said on the floor that they wouldn't vote for McCarthy.
McCarthy won the election just after midnight Saturday. The California Republican had flipped 15 Republicans opposed to a McCarthy speakership, including a member of a group called the never-Kevins. Jordan pleaded with his GOP colleagues to vote for McCarthy, despite the fact that his dissenters had rallied around him.
Gaetz, one of the last remaining holdouts who refused to cast a vote for McCarthy and at one point nominated and voted for Trump for the speaker position, had the chance to end the days-long voting process in the 14th round, but refused. McCarthy confronted Gaetz after the vote while Rogers was held back by Hudson.
McCarthy is the speaker of the house. The California Republican said that Trump told him to focus on the economy and make our borders secure. Without a speaker, the House isn't able to swear in new members, make committee appointments or launch a series of investigations into the Biden Administration, Hunter Biden and the Department of Justice.
Ahead of the fourth round of voting, Trump wants the GOP to unite.
