The move came after a neutral arbiter ruled in favor of Bauer in the appeal of his suspension for violating the league's domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse policies. His ban was reduced to 194 games, which allowed him to be reinstated immediately.

The Dodgers had 14 days to either put the right-handed pitcher on their 40-man roster or release him.

The team refused to tip its hand.

The city of Los Angeles said in a statement that they had just been informed of the ruling.

The Dodgers signed Bauer to a three year contract. He was placed on administrative leave in July of 2021.

The suspension of Bauer followed a report by The Athletic's Brittany Ghiroli and the allegations of domestic violence against him. The woman said that Bauer hit her in the face and vagina, and that she lost consciousness after having sex with him. He had penetrated her without her consent.

The woman said she agreed to have sex with Bauer but didn't agree to be raped.

Jon Fetterolf, Bauer's agent, called the allegations baseless and defamatory.

The L.A. County District Attorney's Office decided not to pursue criminal charges against the 2020 National League Cy Young winner.

A woman in Columbus, Ohio, said in April that Bauer had "choked her unconscious without her consent" and "slapped her without her consent" during sexual encounters.

A woman from Ohio tried to get a temporary order of protection against Bauer in 2020, according to a report by the Post.

The allegations were denied by Bauer's reps.

MLB suspended Bauer for the entire season in April after an investigation. If a player has not been charged with or convicted of a crime, the league can suspend them.

Bauer appealed the suspension.

Trevor Bauer (トレバー・バウアー) @BauerOutage

In the strongest possible terms, I deny committing any violation of the league's domestic violence & sexual assault policy. I am appealing this action and expect to prevail. As we have throughout this process, my representatives & I respect the confidentiality of the proceedings.

It's not clear if Bauer will sign with another team after the Dodgers decided to sign him.

" Almost everyone who has been asked that question has had some derivation of the same answer: never again in MLB," wrote Jeff Passan in August 2021.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported in May that a lot of people think he will never pitch again.

Bauer has spent 10 seasons in baseball and compiled an 83-69 record. He had a 21.7 WAR between 2012 and 2021.

He can sign with any team that offers him a contract.
