The sequel to the 2009 hit, "Avatar: The Way of Water," is currently taking the box office by storm, beating "Top Gun: Maverick" this week to be the biggest 2022.
The original "Avatar" is the top-grossing movie of all time with over $3 billion in global sales.
It's enough to make the third, fourth, and fifth installments happen.
On the latest episode of "Who's Talking to Chris Wallace?", the film's director said that he couldn't wiggle out of the film's success because it would easily pass his break in the next few days.
"I'm going to have to do the other sequels." I know what I will be doing over the next seven years. We're going to be alright.
The third film in the "Avatar" series was already filmed and will be released, according to the man. He suggests that the fate of the fourth and fifth installments in the franchise depended on the success of "The Way of Water."
The films are expected to be released in four years.
The fourth and fifth movies would be directed by a different person. In April 2022, he told Empire Magazine that they are all consuming.
He said in November that he might have to train someone else to make the sixth and seventh entries.
Even though he plays a role in future movies, and has already written the script for 4 and 5, he will still be heavily involved in the franchise.
The fourth movie was the only one that didn't get studio notes, according to the film's director.
The studio gave him three pages of notes when he wrote the script for "The Way of Water." They gave me a page of notes when I read the script for 3.
"When I turned in the script for 4, the studio executive, the creative executive over the films, wrote me an email that said, 'Holy fuck,'" I asked where the notes were. She said that the notes were the ones she was talking about. It goes nuts in a good way.
