The Dolphins will start Thompson at quarterback on Sunday against the Jets.
Thompson has taken first-team reps at practice throughout the week as Teddy Bridgewater and Tua Tagovailoa continue to recover from injuries.
After starting to throw the football late in the week, the team is still hopeful that he will be active for Sunday's game. After hurting his finger in the loss to New England, Bridgewater was unable to throw.
Tagovailoa was ruled out for this weekend because of his concussion. He sustained a concussion against the Packers.
Thompson has two starts and six appearances this season. The game they started in place of Tagovailoa has not yet been completed.
He hopes that Thompson can break the cycle in a must-win game for Miami.
Skylar had a great week of practice. Teddy thrives when he gets team reps. I think the guys are excited. He owned the game plan from the beginning.
I am excited for him to get his chance and hope he can set a Miami Dolphins backup quarterback record.
The Dolphins have lost five games in a row but still have a chance to make the playoffs with a win over the Jets and a New England loss. Miami has not qualified for the playoffs in three years.
