Norwich City: David Wagner appointed new head coach of Canaries

The dismissal of Dean Smith led to the appointment of DavidWagner as head coach.

The ex-Huddersfield manager signed a rolling contract at Carrow Road.

Dean Smith was fired on December 27th after 13 months in charge.

After a work permit and visa were obtained, the club made an announcement.

The Canaries have lost four of their last six games and sit 11th in the table.

Speaking to canaries.co.uk, he said that this was a very special moment for him. It is an honor to be the head coach ofNorwich City.

I'm very happy with what I've seen so far. The training centre has top class facilities. We now have to work hard.

This is a new challenge for everyone. Is it going to be hard? It is not possible to say yes. The past needs to be left behind. We need to be together if we want to succeed. Together as a group of people.

David and his staff are joining the club.

I've known David for a long time and he became the outstanding candidate after speaking with him. It's clear that his knowledge of our squad, vision, idea around football and working style meshes well with our short, medium and long-term goals.

We know we have to get to work and perform well. Results will follow if the performances are good.

Sky Sports News reported earlier that the club had no choice but to fire Smith after their loss.

It was difficult for the players to perform in the second half of the game. I thought Dean did not deserve that.

Performances in the main were looked at. We were hoping that they would be at the level we hoped they would be. There are things that can be mitigated when you are demoted. You have to get used to winning again if you want to change the mentality. It's difficult, but you think the squad is strong?

We had to make a change at the halfway point of the season. It was there and played a part in the fan reaction. We had to do something to change the mood and direction of our season as we came into two important home games.

In the last two or three weeks, the top two have gone a long way away from us, so we need to try and keep somewhere close to them. Not dropping out of the play-off places would be a good thing.

Could we stay with Smith longer? I agree. Is it possible that we would have liked it? We believed in Dean and what he was trying to do, but when I sat with him and talked to him, we decided that it was in the best interests of the football club and Dean as well.
