I shared my thoughts from the Austrian Airlines flight. I wanted to dedicate a post to something that is probably my favorite part of the Austrian Airlines experience.

Austrian Airlines takes coffee to the next level

I love when airlines serve the best coffee in the world, and I have written in the past about the airlines serving the best non- alcoholic drinks. Austrian Airlines offers a separate coffee menu for business class passengers on long haul flights, which is something that other airlines don't do.

Austria is known for its coffee culture, so it is great to see the country's national airline integrate that into the in flight experience. The way it works is that at the end of the main meal service, orders are taken for coffee specialties and they act as dessert. The coffee menu can be found here.

Einspnner is a specialty made from black coffee with whipped cream and sugar. It is worth acknowledging that this is intended to be a dessert and not a black coffee replacement.

If you order something like this at a cafe in Vienna, you will get a glass of water and a chocolate.

To be able to report back, I ordered a second coffee drink and took one for the team. The wiener melange had hot milk, foamed milk, and black coffee.

Now I know why I might not have slept well on the flight.

Austrian has made coffee menu cutbacks

Austrian Airlines has made significant cuts to their coffee offering compared to pre-pandemic. The menu on my Newark to Vienna Austrian business class flight was below.

The menu back in the day was a lot more extensive. It was possible to order the traditional Eiskaffee on flights to Vienna back in the day.

This appears to be a strange place for Austrians to cut costs. Is there an additional cost to stocking the ingredients or is it about streamlining the service?

Bottom line

Austrian Airlines does a great job of reflecting the culture of its home country with its coffee menu. Business class passengers can look forward to a great menu with coffee specialties. This feature is still an awesome feature even though it has been cut back a little.

I am the only one who loves Austrian's coffee menu as much as I do.
