The new steering wheel has come full circle for the company.

The electric car company has begun allowing Model X and Model S customers to choose a traditional round steering wheel instead of a yoke steering wheel. The yoke, similar to those used in race cars or planes and closer in form to two horizontal handles than a wheel, was the reason Musk didn't offer a round steering wheel.

It appears that the owner of the social networking site will change his mind because of the stock being in the toilet.

The company is giving an olive branch to people who were unhappy with the steering yoke. It will allow Model X and Model S owners to buy a $700 wheel retrofit to replace their steering yoke.

In the redesign of the Model X and Model S, the yoke steering wheel was made available. According to the website of the company, the buttons will not be included in the retrofit.

The redesign elicited a number of responses, including complaints and concerns over safety. The steering wheel yoke was a complaint of some people. Drivers claimed that having a yoke steering wheel made it hard to carry out quick maneuvers, like regaining control on an icy road, as they moved with the yoke.

When asked if there was any practical reason for choosing a yoke steering wheel, Musk showed that not all of his decisions are based on his genius. He said that the screen that displayed Full Self-Driving Mode was more pleasing than the real thing.

Another round wheel is not interesting. On September 9, 2021, Musk said that the FSD looks better with a yoke.

The yoke was included in the redesign because Musk liked it. That wasn't enough to convince customers In comparison to 1.2 million Model 3 and Model Y cars, which are less expensive and feature a round steering wheel, 66,700 Model S and Model X cars were delivered.
