The Swedish maker of delightfully designed electric motorbikes finally has an e-bike with pedals. There are two street-legal versions of the Cake ik in the US and Europe.
ik is positioned less for commuters and more as a utility bike for people that rely on two-wheeled transport for their livelihoods.
The ik, which means big and heavy load, is able to carry about 180 lbs in cargo, with 132 lbs on the back and 44 lbs on the front. The frame can be fitted with a lot of different things. It can be configured with up to three 750Wh batteries for a range of up to 224 miles. One of those extra batteries can be used as a power bank for a portable laptop or even a full-on fridge.
The e-bike can produce 100Nm of Torque to start it under heavy load. Four-piston disc brakes on the front and back wheels ensure that it actually does, and it is assisted by an Enviolo Extreme CVP hub gearbox. There is no suspension on the e-bike, leaving the tires to absorb the bumps.
It is fitted with a device that is compatible with the Cake App and Cake Fleet Management App, as well as with a gps device.
The ik is expected to start shipping in May after being pre-ordered for six months.
