The product of a partnership between Sony and Honda was revealed on January 4 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas.
The largest technology trade show is in Las Vegas. The event serves as a platform for companies to introduce their new technology to the public.
The Afeela prototype was unveiled by the Sony Honda Mobility chief executive in a presentation at the Las Vegas show. While there aren't many details about the vehicle available, it looks like Sony x Honda has gone for a familiar four-door sedan-style design.
Consumers will be able to place purchase orders by 2025, but U.S. customers will not be able to receive their purchases until 2026. The word "feel" is at the center of the mobility experience.
CNN has more information.
The car will have safety and driver assistance systems from Honda along with entertainment and interactive features from Sony, Mizuno said. When developing the car, the emphasis has been on software and user interface technology as much as on driving dynamics and performance, he said.
Running above the car's front bumper is a narrow exterior display screen the company calls the media bar. It will allow the vehicle to show information and interact with people outside the vehicle, Mizuno said.
Unreal Engine is the company behind the popular game "Fortnite". There would be a lot of entertainment choices inside the Afeela, as well as cameras and sensors for driver and passenger safety.
