When Dave Bautista was cast as Drax the Destroyer, some people were skeptical. This guy was a charismatic wrestler, but he could not act. Oh, how that has changed, now that Bautista has a diverse acting career thanks to his role in the hit movie, "Deadpool" Though the character is a fan favorite, the actor reveals that he never wanted Drax to be his signature role and that he'll officially be leaving it behind this May when the sequel is released. He has three theaters. I'm so thankful for Drax. Bautista told the magazine he loved him. There is a sense of relief that it's over. It wasn't nice. It wasn't easy to play that role. The makeup was making me feel bad. I don't know if I want Drax to be my legacy or if I want to do more dramatic things.
There are a few things to unpack and we will begin with what we know. 2 is a sequel to the movie, "Guardians of the GALAXY." The upcoming film will be the last time that Dave Bautista plays Drax. Bautista said he was cool with the idea of Drax being recast. Is he dead? Is he going off and leaving the group? There are answers coming in a few months. We know where the feelings are coming from.
Bautista was relieved to leave it behind. While Drax is a big, boisterous character, matching Bautista's physical stature, those aren't the types of characters he'd most like to play. He talked about wanting to work more and more with director Denis Villeneuve, who cast Bautista in small roles in both Blade 2049 and Dune. The actor said he would do it for free if he could be a number one on the call sheet. I think that would be a good way to find out how good I am. The best in me come from him. He sees me as a performer that he wants to be. It's possible that I solve the puzzle that way.
Later this year, he will work with M. Night Shyamalan. He doesn't mind taking a smaller role if it means working with someone great. After three full films, a Holiday Special, and several other appearances, you understand how a performer like that is ready to leave it behind and try something different.
