Republicans have stopped business in the House of Representatives because they can't get a Speaker. The vote for a Speaker in the House is usually a formality because of the GOP's slim majority. There have been six votes and we are not close to a consensus. The nomination of Kevin McCarthy has thrown a wrench in Republicans' plans. He isn't close to the 218 votes needed to win a majority.
There wasn't any indication that a resolution was close. The Democrats don't have the votes to pick a nominee. McCarthy doesn't seem to have the votes. Right now, Congress is shrugging its shoulders.
The jokes about it are really good. Considering McCarthy has courted the people who are blocking his leadership, there is a fair amount of schadenfreude from Democrats. The meme did a great job.
