Georgetown set a dubious Big East record on Wednesday, losing its 25th straight conference game to break a tie with DePaul for the longest such streak in the league's history.

In the second half, the Hoyas were outclassed by 16 and lost 73-57. Georgetown's leading scorer at 16 points per game was held to 8 points.

Georgetown is 5-11 on the year and 0-5 in the Big East. The Hoyas lost all 19 of their regular-season Big East games last season and finished with a dismal 6-25 record. After losing their final regular-season Big East game in 2020-21, they went on to win the conference tournament title. The team made its only appearance in the NCAA tournament.

Georgetown hasn't won a regular-season Big East game since March 2, 2021.

During his six years at the helm of his alma mater, Patrick Ewing has a record of 73-95 and just 26-68 in Big East play.

Lee Reed acknowledged that it was a "frustrating time" for the program.

In response to a request for an interview, Reed said that this is a challenging and frustrating time for the men's basketball team and their fans. No one is more committed to getting the program back on track than the coach.

Georgetown president Jack DeGioia was at the game and after he was asked about the direction of the program.

I am here to discuss the game. "My future is mine," he said. I will be the head coach at Georgetown until the board decides for me to leave. A friend of mine sent me a quote that said "It's not how many times you get knocked down; it's how many times you get up" All we are going to do is keep on getting up after we were knocked down.

The athletic director said at the end of last season that the school was committed to Coach Ewing and that they were working with him to make changes to the men's basketball program.

He signed a six-year contract when he was hired by Georgetown, and this is his first head-coaching job at any level. The extension was given after the Hoyas made it to the NCAA tournament.

Before the start of the season, he replaced all three of his assistants and brought in several transfer players, including Spears, who had come over from Duquesne.

"I'm very proud of Georgetown and we don't want to be associated with a losing streak, but it is what it is,'' he said.
