The United States was defeated by Canada in the semifinals of the world junior championship on Wednesday.

Team Canada will play the Czech Republic in the final.

Bedard, the tournament's leading scorer and the likely No. 1 overall pick in this year's NHL draft, scored at 11:49 of the second period with assists from Joshua Roy and Ethan Del Mastro, cutting a 2-0 Team USA lead in half.

Team Canada scored four times in the second period as they swarmed the American goal keeper. Team USA went from being up 2-0 to being down 4-2 in an 11 minute period. Roy added an empty-net goal in the third period to push Canada's lead to 8-2.

The Americans scored in the first period, followed by a goal from KennyConnors, a fourth-round selection of the Los Angeles Kings, and a forward from the University of Massachusetts.

The Canadians overcame two early goals to get the win. The Michigan State Spartans commit finished with 31 for the Americans.

The rivalry game was a repeat of the world junior final, in which the Anaheim Ducks star led Team USA to a win.

The Czech Republic is waiting for Canada, which won the title last year. Jiri Kulich scored late in overtime to stun Sweden and force a second semifinal.

Team USA will play Sweden in the bronze medal game on Thursday.
