The list of 15 candidates for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's class of 2023 includes three first-time eligible players and a player who has waited 25 years.

In their first year of eligibility, tackle Joe Thomas, a 10-time Pro Bowl selection as well as a six-time first-team All Pro, and Darrelle Revis, a six-time first-team All Pro, are three of the five nominees. Cornerback Albert Lewis waited five years after retiring to be named a finalist for the first time after 20 years of eligibility.

The rest of the candidates were announced Wednesday night.

Only Woodson and Holt were not a finalist last year.

A maximum of five modern-era candidates will be chosen by the Hall of Fame's board of scrutineers. Four days before the Super Bowl, the class of 2020 will be announced.

The seniors committee is made up of Ken Riley, Chuck Howley, and Joe Klecko. The votes will be cast on a yes or no basis.

The Hall of Fame will host the ceremony in August.

The most decorated player this year is Thomas, who has 10 Pro Bowls to his name. In Thomas' 11 seasons with Cleveland, the team did not make the playoffs and only finished with a winning record once.

Among the other first-year eligible players, Freeney was a seven-time Pro Bowl selection and three-time first-team All Pro who was part of the Indianapolis Colts'Super Bowl XLI-winning team.

Revis, a seven-time Pro Bowl selection and four-time first-team All Pro, played for four teams in his 11-year career. He spent eight of his seasons in New York with the Jets after being drafted in the 14th round. He was a part of the New England team that won the Super Bowl.

Calvin Johnson, the second pick by the Detroit Lions in 2007, would join Thomas and Revis in the Hall of Fame.

Lewis is in his final year of eligibility and has been waiting the longest. Lewis played for the Kansas City Chiefs and the Oakland Raiders before retiring.
