One of the strangest stories of the political cycle is the story of GeorgeSantos, who was elected to represent New York's 3rd Congressional District.
A series of reports by The New York Times and other outlets have shown that almost all of the information on his resume and background has been a lie. Despite these blatant lies,Santos has refused to step down and has shown up to congress to take part in the chaotic first days of the new Republican-controlled House. It looks like the newly-elected congressman is a liar and a racist.
Shortly after he lost his first congressional election, there was a shocking instance of racism against him. A picture of Barack and Mrs Obama that was altered to make them look like apes was posted on the account ofSantos.
He asked readers if they had read the footer as to what he said, presumably implying that his caption on the image indicated a non-racist reason for sharing it.
He claimed to be the son of a black man and raised in a very bi-racial family. He has claimed multiple times that he is biracial or black. While his family is from Brazil, his claim to Black heritage is not necessarily related to their roots in that country. One of the largest Black populations outside of Africa and one of the largest in the world is the Afro-Brazilian population.
There is no evidence to support the claim thatSantos came from the union of a white mother and a black father. There hasn't been a lot of information aboutSantos' father, while he has been caught lying about his mother, making all of his claims about her suspect.
Not only has he lied about so many other things, but he has also used his alleged background to push conservative and anti- Black policies. Martin Luther King Jr. and his own racial identity were evoked to object to the singing of the "Black national anthem."
The summer of 2020 was a time whenSantos condemned the Black Lives Matter movement.
He supports bans against "critical race theory" and "woke" curriculum, as well as Republican dog whistles used to censor acknowledgment of racism in U.S. history. The vice president and justice of the Supreme Court were chosen based on race and sex, not the best person for the job, according to the president.
Far-right politicians have used racist talking points to attack Black leaders and push repressive policies, and that's whatSantos has done. Santos has taken it to the next level by claiming to be a biracial Black man. He may not have enough time to push the anti-Black agenda in Congress.
