According to Jesse Rogers, Eric Hosmer is in an agreement with the Chicago Cubs.

Jon Heyman reported on New Year's Eve that the two sides were in contract negotiations and that they looked promising.

The Red Sox made room for Mills on the 40-man roster by scuttling first baseman Eric Hosmer. At the time, Chaim Bloom wanted to give Triston Casas a clear path to the first base job.

Boston acquired Hosmer from the San Diego Padres at the trade deadline in the year 2022. He slashed.243/.320/.311 with four runs in 14 games.

He earned four Gold Gloves and a Silver Slugger during his seven seasons with the Royals. He signed an eight-year, $144 million contract with the Padres after impressing with the Royals.

In 592 games, Hosmer hit.265/.325/.411 with 69 home runs and 309 runs scored. He ended up in Boston after rejecting a trade to the Washington Nationals as part of the Juan Soto deal.

The Cubs didn't have an everyday first baseman in 2022. Patrick Wisdom, Alfonso Rivas, Frank Schwindel, and P.J.

Mervis should be at first base in 2023. He played in Chicago's minor league system for two years. He slashed.297/.383/.593 in 57 games with the Iowa Cubs.
