According to Ian Rapoport, James Washington is going to be released by the Dallas Cowboys.

Washington played 15 offensive snaps over two games with Dallas. He was crowded out of the receiving room by T.Y. Hilton, who signed with the Cowboys on December 12.

Washington signed a one-year deal with Dallas in March to fill the void caused by the trade of Amari Cooper. Michael Gallup missed the start of the season and worked his way back from a tornACL.

Washington had a foot injury in August and had to have it repaired for a long time. He made his Cowboys debut in the 14th game of the season.

Cowboys waived WR James Washington, person familiar with move said. Washington injured left foot in spring and fractured right foot in training camp. Too much missed time on offense disrupted Texas native's tenure with his childhood-favorite team. Healthy scratch past two games.

It's possible that the team created enough space to finally sign Beckham, who has been linked with a move to North Texas. Jerry Jones acknowledged on 105.3 The Fan in December that the odds of a partnership were getting lower as the playoffs approached.

This could be an endorsement of Hilton, who has done well with the team. The four-time Pro Bowler is filling in for Beckham.

The Cowboys are releasing veteran WR James Washington, source confirms to @YahooSports.

T.Y. Hilton off to impactful start already in 2 pitch-count games. Depth needed elsewhere on roster. Cowboys have Hilton, CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup, Noah Brown. Pass-catching TEs, RBs also.

Washington can be claimed off waivers by another team. He has 114 catches for 1,626 yards and 11 touchdown in 62 appearances.

It's hard to imagine the 5'11" pass-catcher landing on his feet immediately.
