David Sullivan said that David Gold always wanted what was best for the club, and his passing is a great loss for all of us.

There is a new date in the UK on Wednesday 4 January.

David Gold passed away after a short illness.

"It is with deep sadness that we can confirm that our beloved joint-chairman David Gold passed away on Wednesday morning," the statement read.

David Gold died peacefully with his family by his side.

When David Sullivan and David Gold purchased a controlling stake in the club, Gold had been in joint charge. He was a co-owner of the football team.

Gold was a player for the club's youth teams and was a lifelong fan of the club.

Sullivan said: "On behalf of everyone at the football club, we mourn the loss of our colleague and friend, David Gold."

It was the day we took ownership of West Ham United that gave us the most pride and happiness. David grew up near the Boleyn Ground in Green Street and was a member of the junior team. The passing of him is a great loss for all of us.

On behalf of all of the players and my staff at the training ground, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to David Gold's family at this very difficult time.

Mr Gold was a regular visitor to Rush Green and was always a source of encouragement and support for me and the players. It was obvious that he was a true supporter of the club. He was always interested in the people working behind the scenes and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He will not be around anymore.

Karren Brady said to a great man, a great friend for over 30 years and a complete gentleman. Rest easy.

On Wednesday, West Ham travels to Yorkshire.
