David Gold: West Ham co-chairman dies following short illness

David Gold passed away after a short illness.

The club said he died peacefully with his family by his side.

David Sullivan became joint-chairman at West Ham with David Gold.

David said he was sad to hear about it.

"On behalf of all of the players and my staff at the training ground, I extend our deepest sympathies to David Gold's family at this very difficult time."

Mr Gold was a regular visitor to Rush Green and was always a source of encouragement and support for me and the players. It was obvious that he was a true supporter of the club.

He was always interested in the people working behind the scenes and was always willing to lend a hand. He will not be around anymore.

The Boleyn Ground is where Gold grew up and he played for the club's youth teams.
