I wrote about the benefits of a cheap kitchen scale in the past. It is difficult to weigh out all your ingredients in separate bowls and containers.

The new stand mixer from GE is a clever way to solve that problem. The new Profile Smart Mixer has all the features of a stand mixer, but with a digital scale and voice controls to help streamline your bakes.

There is a scale in the mixer. If you have a button on top of the tare function, you can dump your ingredients straight into the bowl without measuring them out. You could remove the bowl and weigh the ingredients in a different container.

You can zero out the scale from the top of the mixer.

You can use the companion SmartHQ app to guide you through specific recipes. GE says it can detect subtle changes in texture in order to prevent over or under-mixing in its app. While the app has a relatively small selection of recipes for now, it could be useful for more novice bakers or anyone intimidated by a more complex recipe. The app is expected to be refreshed with new content frequently.

There are other useful features even if you prefer to use your own recipes. You can use your voice to control the mixer, so you can start and stop mixing, or change the speed with just your voice. The mixer speed is closer to the speed of a blender than a stand mixer, which may offer more flexibility with certain recipes.

It is spendier than most high end stand mixers, but the convenience could be worth it.
