With the launch of its first-ever smart switches, Nanoleaf is bringing its whole- home smart lighting ambitions to fruition with a twist designed to make them smarter than the competition. The Sense Plus Smart Light switch and Sense Plus Smart Wireless light switch have built in sensors to learn your lighting habits. Think of the thermostat as a learning device for lighting.
The lighting controls have built-in motion and light sensors. The industrial design is going to be too techie for most people.
We want smart lighting to be able to make decisions for you instead of just controlling it.
The newNanoleaf Skylight will be a big hit in any home. The modular ceiling fixture is comprised of squareLED panels and can mimic the appearance of a skylight in your roof with a white light up to 3000lm or offer up a dynamic lighting scene using some of its 16 million colors.
The Sense Plus switches will have the same motion and light sensors as the Matter- compatible ceiling panel. The design is similar to the company's signature wall panels, but it is hardwired so there is no cable to deal with. There will be two or four packs of skylights. Pricing hasn't been announced.
The new 4D TV Screen Mirror Camera and Addressable Lightstrip Kit will be available for $100 in the first quarter. The starting price is $19.99. A19, BR30, and GU10 bulbs are included in the line.
The Matter upgrade will be offered across the entire line of modular light panels and light bars. The panels are going to be upgraded to Matter. Chu said in an interview that customers want to know that everything is future proof.
Out of the box, the lighting products will work with any other Matter compatible product.
Four years have passed since the first announcement of the Sense Plus Control smart switches. The company switched to Thread due to its low power, lower latency, and more reliable mesh. They had to wait for Matter to start rolling out. Now that the new smart home interoperability standard is here, we are able to launch what is an ambitious undertaking designed to overcome the interface challenges of smart lighting.
According to Chu, smart lighting isn't all that smart. "Lighting that knows what kind of light you need, when you need it, and does it for you is what it needs to be." We want to make smart lighting decisions for you, instead of just controlling it.
We didn't want the system to turn off the lights at the wrong time.
Sense Plus is designed to learn how you like your lighting at certain times of the day and offer up schedules and suggested settings for you in the Nano using a combination of motion and light sensors.
For example, if you set your home office to full brightness at 9AM every morning and your den to a warm white in the evening, Nala should create lighting automations for you that will give you the correct light when you enter the room.
The more you interact with the switches, the more confident they will be. These adjustments won't be made by it. You can choose to enable the settings when it is suggested. You still have a job. We didn't want the system to turn off the lights at the wrong time, or turn them on at the wrong time
It's similar to setting up automations or routines in a smart home system such as Apple Home or Amazon. Sense Plus will do it for you according to what you want. We will have to see how effective this will be.
Sense Plus can be used to learn your movements. If you define neighboring spaces in the app, it will learn when motion sensors are triggered in sequence and offer to turn on the light in the bedroom when you walk through the hall towards that room. Chu says that it is predicting your movement.
All Matter-enabled lights will be compatible with the system. If you want to have your bedroom turn into a blue one in the evening, you'll be able to do that with the dynamic lighting scenes you'll be able to use with theNanoleaf lights.
The bridge and switches will be out in 3 years. Chu says they will be cost effective. He says they want to sell the button/wireless switch for $20 and the hardwired one for $50.
The Sense Plus switch can be used to control both dimmable and non-dimmable light bulbs. Both devices are battery powered and Matter compatible so they can control any bulb or device.
There are two buttons on each switch: an on button and a dimmer button. Chu says there are two other buttons that can be set to different functions.
You can use the Sense Plus switches without a Nala Bridge if you want to. They will need a Thread border routers. The plug-in device has built-in PIR motion and ambient light sensors, as well as a color changing night light. The Nala Bridge can be upgraded to be a Shapes, Elements, and Lines bridge.
