The new Republican congressman from New York's 3rd Congressional District will be sworn in on Tuesday despite admitting that much of his biography is a lie, a federal investigation into his finances, and inquiries into his multiple fabrications.

According to The Wall Street Journal, a judge in Brazil approved charges against the man after he admitted to using a stolen checkbook and a false name to make fraudulent purchases. The case was suspended because police couldn't locate the man who moved to New York in 2011.

In order to respond to the charges, prosecutors in Rio will send a letter to the Justice Department in the US. IfSantos does not present a defense in the Brazilian case, he will be tried in absentia. He could be sentenced to up to five years in jail if he's found guilty.

He owes thousands of dollars in rent and has lied about being Jewish and the child of Holocaust survivors, among other things. He told the New York Post that he is not a criminal in Brazil or anywhere else.

The federal investigation ofSantos involves his sudden acquisition of wealth, the more than $700,000 he lent to his 2022 campaign, rent money he may have illegally paid to a company that shares his home address, and a series of other unusual campaign expenditures.

The Nassau County Executive told the Journal that his whole biography was a pack of lies. We all lost confidence in him.

Kevin McCarthy, who is vying for votes to be elected speaker, has dodged questions aboutSantos.
