When asked if he would keep backing McCarthy, Trump said "we'll see what happens", according to a report.
The Republican-majority House is stuck in limbo after no one secured enough votes to win the speakership, leaving it unable to adopt rules and keep incoming members from being sworn in.
McCarthy wants to be elected speaker on as many ballots as possible.
He is opposed by a group of hard-right Republicans who have demanded concessions from McCarthy in exchange for votes, such as the ability to oust the Speaker in the middle of a term.
According to Trump, McCarthy deserves the shot and admonished Republicans against McCarthy's speaker bid for playing a very dangerous game.

Nineteen Republicans opposed McCarthy on the first two ballots, splitting votes between several other candidates on the former and coalescing behind Jim Jordan, who supports McCarthy. After Donalds switched his vote to support Jordan, the number of Republicans who supported him grew to 20. The Democrats voted for Jeffries. The last time there was a lengthy vote for speaker was before the start of the Civil War.
McCarthy was the firstknown Republican congressional leader to meet with Trump after the January 6 attack on the Capitol, a meeting that many political watchers credit with reviving Trump's political standing. McCarthy worked for years for Trump to curry his favor.
