Manchester United's Casemiro scores their opening goal against Bournemouth at Old Trafford in the Premier League
Casemiro has scored two goals since joining Manchester United from Real Madrid in August

Manchester United extended their winning run to six games with a comfortable victory over Bournemouth in the premier league.

The England international tapped into an empty net after a Bruno Fernandes pass to score in a three successive Old Manchester league games.

Casemiro's goal rounded off the scoring after he latched onto a Christian Eriksen free-kick and volleyed it into the net.

Four minutes into the second period, they doubled their lead as Shaw, playing in his more accustomed left-back role, swept home an Alejandro Garnacho cut-back.

United had started slowly, with a lot of possession in their defensive third, but once they found the opener, a seventh successive home win was never in doubt.

They remain fourth, but have opened up a five-point cushion on fifth-place Spurs by joining third- and second-place Newcastle on 35 points.

Bournemouth, who did not have a shot on target until the 57th minute, are two points clear of the danger zone.

Casemiro delivers for ever-improving United

After joining from Real Madrid, Casemiro didn't start a single game in the first seven games of the season.

There were questions about whether he was a Ten Hag signing, but he has started the past 10 games for the Reds and they have seven wins and two draws.

His volley was a touch of class. He ghosted in behind the Bournemouth defense, opened his body and steered the ball into the top corner.

Shaw scored a magnificent end-to-end goal after the game was opened up. The England left-back scored from the penalty spot after starting the move on the edge of his own box.

After scoring his fourth goal in four games, he was supplied with a simple finish.

If United beat Man City in their next league game on January 14, it will be a strong indication of how far they have come under Ten Hag.

Nervy times for Bournemouth

Gary O'Neil wanted a response after the worst performance of his reign against Crystal Palace on New Year's Eve.

He will only know if he was satisfied with the one he received.

A goal so close to his half-time team talk will frustrate O'Neil if he concedes from a set piece.

The second goal did seem to wake Bournemouth up, with three shots on target following in a minute, but there will surely be doubt creeping in on the south coast, despite new chairman Bill Foley insisting the Cherries "will not be relegated" last week.

With funds available for new players in the January transfer window, a creative spark will likely feature high on O'Neil's wish list with the Cherries looking toothless for large periods.
