Pascal Gross scoring for Brighton against Everton
Pascal Gross capitalised on a woeful error by Idrissa Gueye for Brighton's fourth at Goodison Park

The result at Goodison Park was an emphatic victory for the Seagulls.

Kaoru Mitoma gave the Seagulls the lead with a composed finish after Moises Caicedo picked him out on the edge of the penalty area

The crowd booed at half-time when Evan Ferguson hit the outside of the post.

They fell apart after the restart as they were thrashed by three goals in six minutes by the Seagulls.

Ferguson, making his full Premier League debut, sidefooted Jeremy Sarmiento's low cross into the top corner before turning provider for Solly March.

Gueye's backpass was easily picked off by Gross, who finished with a chip finish.

It wasn't much more than a consolation for the hosts and their supporters after the late penalty conversion by Demarai Gray.

The home fans booed at the end of the game, which was the team's 10th top-flight game in a row that they had lost.

If other results don't go against them, they could fall into the bottom three.

Feeble Toffees fail to build on Etihad draw

The same work ethic and desire that earned them an impressive point at Manchester City on New Year's Eve was not shown by the players at Goodison Park.

Tom Davies shot straight at the Seagulls' goalkeeper from range after Alex Iwobi forced a fine one-handed save out of Robertnchez.

The hosts failed to heed the warning signs when Mitoma headed wide from an excellent position at the other end, then fell behind when he cut inside and fired past Pickford.

Ferguson, March and Gross rubbed salt into the wounds of the fans who were hoping for an improvement in the second half.

The visitors could have won by an even greater margin but took their foot off the gas after Gross' fourth, while Gray's last-minute penalty was greeted only by half-hearted applause from the home fans.

At the end of the game, there were chants of "sack the board" from the crowd.

There's more to come.
