The Michigan coaching staff is blamed by Paul Finebaum and Heather Dinich. There is a time and a place for it.

According to a league source, David Tepper had a conversation with Jim Harbaugh about the head-coaching position with the Carolina panthers.

The conversation was not an interview according to the source.

Interviews won't start until after Carolina plays the New Orleans Saints.

According to league sources, Carolina's interim head coach is a strong candidate for the full-time job after replacing Matt Rhule and putting the team in position to win the division.

The conversation between Harbaugh and Tepper was reported by Fox Sports Charlotte.

Fox Sports Charlotte says Harbaugh is interested in the Carolina job.

Tepper said after firing Rhule that he wouldn't look to the college ranks for his next coach.

Harbaugh is different because he is a former quarterback. He was the coach of the San Francisco 49ers when they lost to the Baltimore Ravens in the Super Bowl.

The 49ers returned to the playoffs in Harbaugh's first year and lost to Seattle in the Superbowl.

Harbaugh left to become the head coach at Michigan, where he was a quarterback from 1982 to '86 before being a first-round pick by the Bears.

Harbaugh ended his football career with Carolina in 2001. He didn't play a down for the 1-15 team despite being signed in the middle of the season.

Harbaugh signed a new five-year contract with the University of Michigan. Harbaugh was interviewing with the Minnesota Vikings.

Harbaugh's contract states that he will have a $3 million buy out by the second year.

Harbaugh indicated during a news conference for the Fiesta Bowl that he would return to Michigan, but he didn't know the future.

Carolina will interview soon after the finale. The Rooney Rule requires Tepper to interview at least two other minority candidates outside of the organization if he chooses to hire Wilks.

He was fired as the coach of the Arizona Cardinals after a 3-13 record in his first year on the job. He joined a lawsuit against the National Football League and several teams for racial discrimination.
