The National Football League game between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals that was suspended Monday night after Bills safety Damar Hamlin went into cardiac arrest will not be resumed this week, the league announced Tuesday.
The league doesn't know if the game will be made up or not.
Hamlin is currently in the intensive care unit at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, according to the Bills.
The game was stopped with 5:58 left in the first quarter after Hamlin collapsed following a tackle.
The Bills are scheduled to play the New England Pats, while the Cincinnati Reds are playing the Baltimore Ravens.
The league said in a news release that the commissioner made the decision after talking with the teams' leadership and the players' union.
Hamlin was resuscitated on the field by medical staff and then an ambulance took him to the hospital after a defibrillated pulse was restored. Many stunned players cried openly as the scene played out, and it was clear that initial plans to restart the game would not happen. The game was put off about an hour after it was stopped.
There have been no comments on Hamlin's condition.
The game on Monday night was supposed to be a battle for the top seed in the conference, with the Bills having won six in a row and the Cincinnati Reds having won seven in a row. It's not clear how the league would proceed with a critical game in question.
