There will be another baseball executive in the New York Yankees front office.

Sabean will be an advisor to Cashman.

The San Francisco Giants won three World Series titles in a row under Sabean's leadership. He was the executive vice president for the Giants for the past four seasons and had been with the Yankees for eight seasons. From 1986 to 1990 Sabean was New York's director of scouting and vice president of player development and scouting.

Sabean was praised by Cashman as an "unsung hero" for his role in the drafting and development of several players.

Cashman said that his name was on the'96, '98, '99 and 2000'championships as much as anyone else's.

The Yankees have not been to the World Series since 2009.
