Even though his career was built on sci fi he was still surprised by a strange defect in his car.

On New Year's Day, the South African- Canadian director posted a photo of a shattered interior window and asked his followers if they had ever heard of a window cracking.

He wrote that he was sitting in his car.

Critics of Musk were quick to point out that he looked a lot like a character from Blomkamp's filmography and that it was ironic.

Can't imagine doing a film like District 9 and buying a car.

Alex Roy, founder of Futurism's sister site The Drive, joked that the "teaser" for Blomkamp's latest project would be self-destructive.

Cracking Up

The issue may be widespread since the director hasn't followed up on his initial post.

A user posted a photo of a small interior crack that formed from the bottom up with no impact on their Model Y window, asking their fellow owners if they had ever experienced something similar. One person said that they had had similar problems with their Model Ys and that the cracks had developed within days of taking the car home.

There are a lot of things that could have made the crack. The shattered window could have been caused by thermal stress, speed cracks, or old fashioned manufacturing defects.

The director may be rethinking his purchase from a car made by the Iron Man.
