48 hour cities are places where there is plenty of time to enjoy yourself and then that is enough. That is not the case in Melbourne.

It's often overlooked for buzzy Sydney, but it's a great place to visit if you're looking for a hip place to live and eat.

If you want to know where to eat, how to get around, and what to do in the city, this is the place to go. It's likely top five.

Getting Into Melbourne From The Airport

You have a lot of options when it comes to getting from the airport to the city. The main choices are to either grab the SkyBus or use a ride sharing service.

The SkyBus provides service from MEL Airport to a number of areas, including the central business district. If you book online, it will cost you about 14 dollars or $10 per person each way.

If you're splitting, ride share services from the airport aren't that bad.

A ride in Australia will cost around $55 Australian Dollars, which is around 40 US dollars or 22 British pounds. It's double the price of the SkyBus if you split it.

Where to Stay In Melbourne

Simple geography is one of the reasons to stay more than 48 hours. Like London and other exciting cities around the world, Melbourne is spread out and each neighbourhood has a completely different vibe.

If it is your first time and you like easy access, the central and south bank area is a good choice, with major hotel chains galore and quick access to well known central shops, museums and cool nearby neighbourhoods. The Westin, The Langham, and Treasury on Collins are all great places to stay.

It's fun to go to St. Kilda and Windsor. If you like food, boutiques and nightlife, this is the place for you.

You can find great access to the city via the 6 tram if you rent anAirbnb in either neighbourhood.

If you are close to the city, you will find great boutiques as well as the option to rent an apartment. You can find high end beachfront living in BRIGHTON further east of the city.

Getting Around Melbourne

Public transport and walking are both important in the city. The above ground trams are very easy to use, and will save you a lot of money. They're not free, that's what you know. The city is very liberal in its enforcement of the law, but don't be bad tourists.

You can get a MyKI card at any major stop or 7/11 store and then use it whenever you want. Plug in when you are on the internet and then take a picture when you are offline.

If you are a fan of the ride-sharing service, it's easy to find it in Melbourne. Bolt may save you a few bucks.

Day One: Let The 48 Hours In Melbourne Begin

They will tell you they are coffee snobs if you ask them.

They drink tea if not. Paris may be off the map, or a cup of coffee may be the best in the world, if you don't have an amazing pastry or coffee. It's that good.

For Morning Coffee In Melbourne

You can find Dukes Coffee Roasters, Kinfolk, Bonnie Coffee, Slowpoke, Journeyman, and The Tamper Trap.

There are excellent breakfast options a la eggs and muffins at any of the above places. Journeyman is a favorite among my friends.

Where To?

It is a great place to start your trip if you are new to the area.

You can walk along the gorgeous Yarra River and take a tour of famous graffiti streets like Hozier Lane.

You can go to the museum in Chinatown to get to Fitzroy.

The largest museum in the Southern Hemisphere is made up of science, culture, nature and photography. The gift shop is a great place to pick up souvenirs.

It is most likely time for some shopping or a bite to eat. The Fitzroy neighbourhood is off the charts for both things.

Take a stroll up and down the streets for boutique shopping and diverse restaurants. This is a great place to hang out.

For Great Lunch In Melbourne, Hit These Spots

Marios (Fitzroy),Marion (Fitzroy), Archie's All Day (Fitzroy), Tokyo Tina (Windsor), Chin Chin (CBD) or David's (Prahran) will set you off right.

You have to go the right way. These places are great on both days.

What’s Next?

The area is worth a look regardless of whether you are a boutique shopper or not. Local designers and clothing shops can be found in the small art galleries and jewelry stores. It is also home to one of the best gelato spots in the country.

The day should be behind you after you wander through the streets of Fitzroy and Carlton. It is most likely time for a drink.

Best Cocktail Bars In Melbourne

Naked For Satan has an awesome rooftop bar that is worth a visit if you want a drink and a view of the city. Loch and Key,Eau De Vie, and The Attic in Black Pearl are some of the best cocktail bars in the area.

If you head to Victoria, it will cause your jaw to drop because it's part of Australia. If you have more than 48 hours, you should definitely go to the 12 Apostles, Great Ocean Road or something similar.

Hike and Seek Tours is a great option for a small group tour with friendly guides and no more than 9 people. The tour is anti-tour.

Day Two: Time To Branch Out

If someone says they didn't get it, it's because they were one of the dumb tourists who walked the five blocks near their central hotel, couldn't find a Starbucks and went back to their hotel. Bye, stupid people. It's the huge mix of neighbourhoods that make this place so exciting. You finish them all off for the second day.

The 6 Tram from Town Hall/Collins St to Chapel Street is the best way to stay in the city. If you like to work out, you could just go all the way to BRIGHTON.

Chapel St is a great place to cruise up and down and enjoy local cafes, shops and eateries while getting a sense of real local life. There are people living here.

If you have had your fill of Prahran and the Chapel St area, you can go to Glacé. There is a chef and a dessert bar in this picture. Maybe the greatest thing on earth is the honeycomb ice cream with salted caramel.

Brighton, St Kilda And Beyond

You will be able to see the Brighton Bathing Boxes, as well as other fun things in the city. At least a phone that can do them some justice is necessary.

This high end neighbourhood has amazing beach and city views, great walking and funky places to eat and drink. To get from wherever you are to the Bathing Boxes, you need to figure out the most logical way to get there.

It can feel like old rich one percenters with too much of your grandma's perfume on if you end up on the wrong street. Turn a corner and everything will work out.

You can if you are a walker. Glacé is close to the St Kilda Pier, not to be confused with the neighborhood. This is a great spot to perch for sunset.

The big moment on any trip is now brought about by this. There aren't many ways to toast a big trip like dinner after the sun goes down. There are many shades of wonderful in Me lbs.

That’s it!

It's time to leave after 48 hours. If you have more time, you might want to check out the Australian Open Tennis and the Melbourne Cricket Ground. It will take a few trips to peel it back, but you will fall in love from the first moment you see it.

That's great. A trip to Australia is a must. You will most likely try to copy their accents within hours of landing. There are pristine beaches on the Gold Coast.

Bondi Icebergs pool at sunrise time.

So boss, about those days off. Being so far away, many people think of Australia as a dot far along the "other side" of the map, but it's actually massive and the truth is you can't or won't see all the best bits.
