HD 213258 is a rapidly oscillating, strongly magnetic Ap star, study finds

Astronomers have seen a star using the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope. HD 213258 is a fast moving Ap star. There is a paper on the arXiv pre-print server.

Stars with unusual metal abundances are called chemically peculiar stars. Magnetic stars with stronger magnetic fields than classical A- or B-type stars are known as magnetic chemically peculiar stars. Astronomers see this class of objects as a laboratory for studying stellar formation and evolution.

HD 213258 is a star that is 2.5 times bigger than the sun and is located in the constellation of Lacerta. The star has a magnitude of 2.39 and an effective temperature of between 7,500 and 10,000 K.

A group of astronomer led by Gautier Mathys of the European Southern Observatory have observed HD 213258 with the ESPaDOnS. They were able to discover more about the nature of this star.

HD 213258 is an Ap star that we recently identified as presenting a unique combination of rare, remarkable properties.

Between November 2020 and October 2022, ESPaDOnS was used to record the spectrum of HD 213258. The data from NASA's TESS and the CORrelation-RAdial-VELocities were included in the study.

The mean magnetic field modulus of HD 213258 was 3.8 kG over the course of two years. The finding shows that HD 213258 is an Ap star.

HD 213258 is one of the slowest rotating Ap stars known to date due to the fact that it has a stellar rotation period of 50 years. The star exhibits high overtone pulsations with a period of 7.58 minutes. HD 213258 was categorized as a ro Ap star.

The low-mass companion of HD 213258 may be a single-line system with a low-mass companion. The researchers think that there is a brown dwarf in this system. HD 213258 is the first ro Ap star to have a brown dwarf companion.

HD 213258 is a new rapidly oscillating, super- slowly rotating, strongly magnetic Ap star. There is a book titled "arxiv.2212.12752."
