The 2020 Boston Marathon is postponed. The new date will be in September. Here are some steps to help you change your Boston Marathon travel.

The 124th edition of the Boston Marathon is experiencing something that only occurred once back in World War I (a military relay race replaced it in 1918) - the Boston Marathon will not happen on the scheduled date of Patriot's Day. The 2020 Boston Marathon will be postponed.

The organizers and elected officials in the communities that the Boston Marathon takes place in have decided that the best course of action for this year's Boston Marathon is to postpone it until September 14, 2020.

The 124th Boston Marathon has been postponed - the @BAA understands the city's decision that the marathon cannot be held on April 20, and we offer our full support to take all efforts to postpone until September 14, 2020. Read more: https://t.co/CsnHNKOAZz pic.twitter.com/eBEGDM18FT

Next Steps for Travel

I have a whole post about what your next steps are if your marathon has been cancelled or postponed so make sure you check it out here.

But, I will say that the first thing you are going to want to do is to take care of your flight arrangements. Hold times are long but all the US airlines have made it possible to change flights that were booked before March for travel through the end of April.

I would normally suggest to wait on the changing of flights since you have time but you will need to pay a fare difference and the more people that book for September's edition, the higher the fares will go.

Next, take care of your hotel booking. I will update later with more links but hotels are allowing even non-refundable rates to either be cancelled/changed or giving points in lieu of getting your money back.

This is developing - more information will be added as it comes.
