UFC president Dana White issued a public apology Monday for a physical altercation between him and his wife that was captured on video during their New Year's Eve celebration.
White and his wife, Anne, are shown in a video in a club. Dana White slaps Anne White in the face after she said something to her. After the two are separated, Dana White slaps her.
There are no excuses for what happened, according to Dana White.
White said that there is never an excuse for a man to put his hands on a woman. We've been married for 30 years. We have known each other for a long time. We have definitely been through some rough times together. There are three kids with us.
I'm embarrassed but it's also one of those situations where we're more worried about our kids. Since the video came out, we've shown the kids the video, and we're more focused on our family right now.
I have no excuse for this thing. It is the first time it has ever happened. It is the first time it has happened. The people are going to say what they want to say. It is deserved. I'm deserving of it.
Anne White said it was an isolated incident.
She said that she and Dana have been married for almost three decades. It's out of character for him to do that. This has never been done before. We both drank too much on New Year's Eve and things got out of hand. As a family, we apologized to each other. I want people to respect our privacy for the sake of our children.
White has been the president of the UFC since 2001.
