Set 13 years before the Titanic's doomed voyage, the eight-episode series introduced a collection of eclectic characters on a steamship. Investigating a mysterious signal from another ship, Prometheus, which had been missing for months, the ship's crew and passengers are drawn into a nightmare journey that discombobs time and logic. Plans for Seasons 2 and 3 had been made public.
The cast were all truly devastated by the decision not to move forward with the second and third season.

The streaming service has not yet commented on the non-renewal. It's not clear exactly why the series has been canceled, though it's especially curious considering the overwhelming popularity of the show. In December of last year, the company said that 1899 had racked up 87.9 million hours of viewing.
It's possible that 1899's cancellation has something to do with costs, as you can see in the special Making 1899. Since price hikes saw subscribers bailing by the bucketload, the service has pinched pennies. The company is spending $17 billion on content in the next five years.
The fans of the show have started a petition to save it.
